Description
The Threshold of Bhutan Morning: Arrival at Bagdogra Airport (IXB). Your Bhutanese guide and driver will meet you for a 4-hour scenic drive through the Dooars tea estates. Afternoon: Cross the iconic Bhutan Gate into Phuentsholing. Notice the immediate change in architecture and atmosphere. Evening: Visit Zangtog Pelri Lhakhang, a small temple in the town center, and enjoy your first authentic Bhutanese dinner (don't miss the Ema Datshi!). Ascent to the Capital Morning: Complete immigration formalities and begin the 5-hour drive to Thimphu. The road winds through misty forests, past waterfalls (like the Gedu waterfalls), and the Chukha Hydel project. Afternoon: Stop at Chuzom, the confluence of the Thimphu and Paro rivers, adorned with three different styles of stupas (Bhutanese, Tibetan, and Nepalese). Evening: Arrive in Thimphu. Take a gentle walk to the Memorial Chorten, where locals circumambulate the stupa in evening prayer. Overnight: Thimphu. Day 3: Thimphu Culture & The Punakha Excursion Morning: A day-excursion to Punakha. The drive takes you over the Dochula Pass (3,100m). If the weather is clear, you will see a 360-degree panorama of the snow-capped Himalayas. Explore the 108 Druk Wangyel Chortens. Afternoon: Descend into the sub-tropical Punakha valley. Visit the Punakha Dzong, arguably the most beautiful fortress in the country, situated at the confluence of the "Father" and "Mother" rivers. Cross the Punakha Suspension Bridge, one of the longest in Bhutan. Visit the Buddha Dordenma (Buddha Point), a massive golden statue overlooking the valley. Explore the Motithang Takin Preserve to see the national animal. The Tiger’s Nest & Hot Stone Bliss Morning: The highlight of the trip—a hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest). Perched on a cliff 900 meters above the valley, this is Bhutan’s most iconic site. Hot Stone Bath: After the grueling hike, treat your muscles to a Traditional Bhutanese Hot Stone Bath. The Experience: River stones are heated in a wood fire until red-hot and dropped into a wooden tub filled with mountain water and medicinal herbs (Khempa). It is the ultimate Bhutanese way to relax.
