Description

The best time for bird watching in Bhutan is during the winter and spring seasons, when the country’s rich biodiversity becomes most active and visible across its diverse habitats. From November to February (winter), Bhutan becomes a prime destination for bird enthusiasts as many migratory species arrive, especially in the high-altitude valleys and wetlands. This is the most famous season to spot the rare and endangered, Black-necked Crane, particularly in regions like Phobjikha Valley. The weather is also clear and dry, making it ideal for long hours of bird observation and photography. The spring season (March to May) is another excellent period for bird watching, as forests across Bhutan come alive with breeding activity and vibrant vegetation. During this time, bird diversity is at its peak, and species such as the brightly colored Himalayan Monal can often be seen in the forested regions. The pleasant weather, blooming rhododendrons, and active birdlife make spring especially rewarding for nature lovers. Overall, Bhutan offers a unique birding experience year-round due to its varied ecosystems, but winter is best for migratory and rare species, while spring is ideal for diversity and forest birding, making it a true paradise for bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts. Note: We would be happy to offer hotel upgrades based on your preference and comfort level. If you wish to stay in higher-category properties (such as premium 4-star or luxury hotels), we can arrange the upgrade for you.
